Pair 18th Century Italian Fauteuils. *** SOLD ***

$9,250.00

This is a stunning pair of Italian Rococo Louis XV-Style Fauteuils a la Reine that date to c. 1760-1780. The chairs are crafted in finely carved walnut which features acanthus leaves and floral elements. The cartouche-shaped back has a detailed carved crest element and is designed with a removable back which is stabilized by wrought iron clips. The scrolling legs feature finely carved knees and snail scrolled feet. It appears that the fauteuils were originally painted and parcel gilded; as they are now presented, the painted surfaces have been brought down to the walnut frames and the gilded details have been retained. It appears that the gilded elements have been refreshed. There are anticipated traces of old inactive worming (an added good indication of age) and there is normal anticipated slight shrinkage to the walnut. The chairs are upholstered in a warm beige silk which is in very good condition. These are wonderful examples of 18th century Italian fauteuils that are ready for the next 100+ years of use.
