This is a stunning emotive abstracted sculpture of a kneeling antelope that is crafted in bronze and signed by the artist , Barbara Beretich (1936 - 2018), on the bottom. The sculpture is beautifully cast with fine detail and patina. During Beretich's younger years in California, her family raised multiple animals including hogs, cows, sheep and horses. After graduating from the University of Illinois with a BA in art, Beretich spent time in Europe where she met and became lifelong friends with the French artist, Francoise Gilot. Following her time in Europe, Beretich moved to Claremont CA where she earned an MFA in sculpture and became one of the major influences on the "Claremont School" of artists. Later in life, she established her home-based gallery specializing in work by Claremont artists. Her home gallery was given historical-site status by the city of Claremont CA.
